Port of Igoumenitsa
Harbour Hotels and Accommodation
(Igoumenitsa, Thesprotia, Greece)
Igoumenitsa has long been the capital of Thesprotia and is where you will find Greece's third-biggest port. However, despite the importance of the harbour, the town itself is quite small and offers a fairly limited selection of accommodation, hotels and tavernas, unlike many of the bustling Greek towns that usually support a busy port.
The good beaches, appealing climate and innumerable sightseeing opportunities all combine to make Igoumenitsa a popular destination during the tourist season.
There are only a handful of lodging options to choose from in Igoumenitsa and the most notable include both the Jolly Hotel on the Ethnikis Andistasis, and also the Hotel Aktaion on the Agion Apostolon. It is always very sensible to make reservations ahead of the tourist season to ensure that you find a suitable room. However, it is worth bearing in mind that further accommodation is available in the nearby towns and villages, such as Syvota and Perdika to the south.
During the height of the season, advanced booking is essential, but the prefecture of Thesprotia and northern Greece as a whole support quite a few accommodation facilities, tending to offer more favourable lodging alternatives than those in Igoumenitsa itself.
